Transcript: 05. Challenge: Booleans

To practice working with Booleans, I’ve got two short challenges for you! :]

In the first challenge, you have to check if a password is secure enough. For the sake of simplicity, you can say that a password is secure, if it has at least ten characters.

In the second challenge, you have to check if two people have the same name length. That is, if they both have the same number of characters in their names.

That’s it!

The instructions are in the starter project code for this episode.

Alright, let’s solve the first challenge. Start by creating a constant named myPassword. For now, I’ll try putting in something silly, like so:

val myPassword = "y0uW1llNotH4ckM3"

Then I need to check if the password is at least 10 characters long. When you have the at least phrase in conditions, it usually means it has to be either greater than some value, or equal. In this case, the password length value needs to be greater than or equal to 10.

To check that, add the following code:

val isPasswordSecure = myPassword.length >= 10
println(isPasswordSecure)

Now run the project, and it should print out true because the password is secure! :]

Now for the second challenge you are to compare the names of two people, and see if they have the same length. To start off, create two constants to represent the names like so:

val buddyName = "Filip"
val strangerName = "Jane"

Now you have to compare the two value’s lengths. To do so add the following code:

val areSameLength = buddyName.length == strangerName.length
println(areSameLength)

Run the project once more.

And you should see that the two names dont have the same length!!!
