Episode - 18 Learn Deep Links

As we have discussed before application are build with multiple screen and navigating through them is one of the most essential part of the user interaction. Navigating through all the screen to reach at a specific point to do a small task is trouble some or a tedious job for users. But let us say that we get an option to redirect to a specific part of the app directly. That would save a lot of time and speed up things also be used to increase enagement of the users. This is where Deep Links come into play.

A deep link is a URL that navigates to a specific destination in our mobile app. Let us say we are running a 50% sale of few books and we show that add. If the users clicks on banner ad it will directly open our app and navigate to required book that has the sale. This will not only save the users time. But will prevent the users from searching the content that he want and make the selling process easier.

There are three types of deep links

  • URI Schemes : An App’s own URI Scheme. This form of deep link only works if the app is installed.

  • iOS Universal Links : In this type of deep links we place a file that point to the App ID. This helps in deciding weather to open the app or direct user to app store to download the app.

  • Android App Links : These are iOS Universal Links, but for android platform. Android App links take users directly to a link’s specific content. They use the HTTP URLS and are assocuated with websites.

Here We will be focusing more on the URL Scheme.
