The raywenderlich.com Team

About once a year, we open up the ability to apply to the raywenderlich.com tech editing team to the general public. Well, now’s that time for 2014!

Keep reading to find out why you should apply to join our tech editing team, and how to apply!

Why Apply?

There are many great reasons to be a technical editor for raywenderlich.com:

  • You’ll become a better developer. Being a technical editor forces you to carve out learning time in your schedule, which can be difficult to do otherwise, due to the demands of a day job.
  • You’ll become a better writer. By reviewing tutorials, you will also learn a lot about writing. Both from helping other authors improve, and from learning from other fellow editors.
  • You’ll get a lot of exposure. You’ll get to know each member of the Tutorial Team, their experience level and writing style, and work with me and the other editors more closely than just about anyone else. These contacts may prove to be invaluable, and will likely lead to some special opportunities!
  • You’ll get paid! We also pay a significant amount for each tech edit performed (currently ~$60/part), and you get a ton of free stuff for joining too. So basically, you’re getting paid to learn! :]

This is an informal, part-time position – you’d be editing about 1-3 tutorials per month. We do expect that when you are assigned a tutorial to tech edit, that you complete the tech edit within 1 week.

How To Apply?

We are looking for a few experienced developers with excellent English writing skills and a perfectionist streak to join the team.

If you meet the above requirements and want to apply to join the team, please send me a direct email with the answers to the following questions:

  • Please introduce yourself and describe your iOS and writing experience.
  • What is the best app you’ve made or worked on, and why are you proud of the work you did on this app? [Please include an App Store link]
  • Why are you interested in being a tech editor for raywenderlich.com?

For the applicants that look most promising, we will send you an invite to an official tryout process, where you will perform tech edit a mock tutorial, and your score will be compared to those of our current editors. Those that pass the tryout will become full members of the team!

Note: Note that last time we opened up applicants to the public we got over 250 applicants, so please understand we may not have time to respond to all applicants. We do promise to read each and every email though!

Thanks for considering applying to join the raywenderlich.com tech editing team, and we are looking forward to working with you! :]
