Will raywenderlich.com Books be Updated for Swift 4.2 and iOS 12?

WWDC is a distant memory by now, but as always, we know you want the answer to the question: “Will raywenderlich.com update its books for Swift 4.2, iOS 12 and Xcode 10?”

And we’re happy to tell you that yes, we will be updating most of our books for existing digital edition customers!

Which Books Will be Updated in the Fall?

Here are the books we’re planning to update:

1. Metal by Tutorials
2. Core Data by Tutorials
3. Design Patterns by Tutorials
4. iOS Apprentice
5. ARKit by Tutorials
6. iOS Animations by Tutorials
7. Data Structures and Algorithms in Swift
8. Swift Apprentice
9. Server Side Swift with Vapor
10. Advanced Apple Debugging & Reverse Engineering

That’s 10 free updates in one year! You won’t find that kind of value anywhere else.

If you purchase any of these digital edition books from our online store, you’ll get the existing iOS 11/Swift 4/Xcode 9 edition — but you’ll automatically receive a free update to the iOS 12/Swift 4.2/Xcode 10 edition once it’s available.

Which Books Will be Updated Later?

We also have two books we are planning on updating at some point, but not in the fall:

• Realm: Building Modern Swift Apps with Realm
• RxSwift: Reactive Programming in Swift

This is because we need to wait until the new versions of Realm and RxSwift are ready before we can proceed with the updates. However, we do plan on making the updates when the time is right.

What Books Won’t be Updated?

Here are the books we aren’t planning on updating:

• iOS 11 by Tutorials: This book is about new APIs released in iOS 11, so doesn’t make sense to update for iOS 12.
• 2D Apple Games by Tutorials and 3D Apple Games by Tutorials: We have found most of our readers (and professional game developers) prefer making games on Unity and Unreal Engine, so will be focusing on our book Unity Games by Tutorials over SpriteKit and SceneKit moving forward.
• watchOS by Tutorials and tvOS Apprentice: There isn’t enough demand from our customers to warrant further investment into these books.

When Will Updated Books be Available?

We’re targeting Fall 2018 for the release of the new editions of the books, so stay tuned for updates.

And we may have a few surprises in store for you for this book season as well. But you’ll have to come back in the fall to find out!
