Head of Content

Razeware is looking for a Head of Content, a role that is a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, and will provide leadership to our content team and organization.

About us

Razeware is the company behind raywenderlich.com, the most popular mobile development site on the Internet. We are a bootstrapped company with 22 full-time team members, and we work with a wide network of over 300 part-time contractors from around the world who help create tutorials, videos, and books for our site. Our entire company is remote, and this job is too.

Over the past 10 years, our community has published over 5,500 videos, 2,000 articles, and 50 books. Our products have made a difference in the lives of thousands of developers across the world, helping them to get their first job as a mobile developer, grow their careers, or create the app of their dreams.

What we’re looking for

The Head of Content role is a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, and as such, will help not only provide leadership to our content team, but also our entire organization. This role will oversee an internal team of seven, as well as our external content contributors of over 300 people.

We are looking for a strategic thinker who can evaluate the content strategy that has gotten us to well over $3MM ARR, and who can create the next iteration of our content strategy to get us to $10MM ARR and beyond. The successful candidate will have significant experience with different content production methods and learning formats, as well as the creation of learning assessments, certifications and credentials. The candidate will be someone very comfortable in technical environments, and has worked extensively either in e-learning environments or at EdTech companies.

The ideal candidate

You have many years of experience creating and leading content organizations, but are looking for a strategic role where you can help guide our company as we enter a significant growth phase. You’ll report to the CEO, and you’ll oversee the largest department in our organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the strategic vision and direction for the company’s content production, instructional style, pedagogical approach, content topics and curriculum, and assessment methodology.
  • Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, helping to lead overall company strategy and performance.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy based on instruction principles, learner preferences and behavior, and business objectives.
  • Provide strong leadership to the internal content team of seven, as well as our external content team of over 320 contractors through intelligent, clear, and inspirational communication and a hands-on, passionate approach.
  • Oversee the sourcing and development of top subject matter experts worldwide as content contributors, as well as exploring content partnerships with learning content providers.
  • Provide oversight of the development & scaling of an online accelerated learning format (“bootcamp”).
  • Have a strong grasp on analytics, the ability to calculate ROI on every piece of content produced by the business, and be able to optimize production methods and processes based on that.
  • Manage the content development plans (process and schedule) during content creation, ensuring content development progresses in a timely manner at scale on ambitious timelines.
  • Ensure effective coordination with marketing about messaging and production timelines, as well as with engineering about any development or roadmap requirements.

Experience:

  • 10 – 15 years of overall management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience at an e-learning platform, learning management system (LMS), or a learning institution with a focus on adult or career learning.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a role that interfaces often with developers and must demonstrate a keen interest and competency in technology and relevant software.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience overseeing the creation of video & text-based digital content.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience creating learning assessments and certifications for course completion.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing distributed or fully remote teams.
